This Hanoi coffee workshop and Tam Vi meal puts two of the city's daily pleasures into one outing. The first part is the coffee class at Local Beans Roastery in Ba Dinh: the story of coffee in Vietnam, the difference between Arabica and Robusta, and the phin filter, before you brew and taste six coffees yourself, from egg and salt coffee to a pour-over.
Your guide then takes you to Tam Vi, a restaurant with one Michelin star that cooks the food Hanoi families eat at home. The table shares one of two set menus of Northern dishes such as braised fish, caramelised pork with eggs and crab soup with Malabar spinach. It suits food and coffee lovers who want a real Hanoi meal without hunting for a table at one of the city's best-known restaurants.
Hotel pickup in the Old Quarter on the transfer option, or meet us by the yellow "Bia Hoi Mau Dich" sign in Ba Dinh.
Coffee history and beans, then you brew and taste phin, egg, salt, coconut, brown and pour-over coffee.
Your guide takes you from the roastery to the restaurant.
Northern Vietnamese dishes to share, at your own pace.
On the transfer option we drive you back; otherwise the experience ends at the restaurant.
Transfer option: we collect you from your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter and contact you in advance to arrange the time.
Making your own way: wait at the corner of Alley 75, Lane 173, Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Ba Dinh, by the big yellow sign that says "Bia Hoi Mau Dich", and we walk you to the roastery. The experience ends at Tam Vi, or at your hotel on the transfer option.
