A Phu Quoc airport transfer is short and cheap if you stay near Duong Dong: the town is about 10 km away, a metered taxi costs around 180,000 to 220,000 VND (~7 to 8.50 USD), and the ride takes 20 to 30 minutes. Resorts in the far north or south are 15 to 35 km away, so it pays to check your hotel's location before you land. If you arrive on a busy evening flight, a fast track at Phu Quoc airport can get you through immigration before the main queue builds.
The short version
You have five main ways to leave Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC): a metered taxi, Grab, the public bus, a motorbike taxi or a pre-booked car or hotel shuttle. Taxis and Grab cost about the same, the bus is cheapest but stops in the late afternoon, and a pre-booked car makes most sense for groups or late arrivals.

Prices go up at night, in heavy rain and during Tet and summer holidays, when Grab often shows higher fares. Taxis also add an airport exit fee of about 10,000 VND to the meter.

If you have not booked a hotel yet, the drive time is worth thinking about. Staying in the north means a quiet beach and big resorts, but every trip to the airport, the night market or the southern islands takes close to an hour. Our guide to choosing a beach base on Phu Quoc compares the areas in more detail. Many travelers fly in from the south of Vietnam, so if you plan two days in Ho Chi Minh City first, the flight to PQC takes about an hour.

Metered taxis wait in a marked queue directly outside the arrivals hall, and they are the simplest choice if you don't use apps. Use only cars in the official queue, check that the meter starts when you leave, and expect to pay about 180,000 to 220,000 VND to Duong Dong.
Several local and national taxi companies work at the airport, including fully electric taxis, and their meter rates are similar: about 10,000 VND to start and 13,600 to 17,000 VND per km after that. Larger 7-seat cars cost a little more per km, but they fit a family with big suitcases. Drivers outside the queue sometimes offer a fixed price that sounds simple but is often higher than the meter, especially for the north coast. If the driver does not turn on the meter, ask him to stop and take the next car in the queue.

Grab works well at Phu Quoc airport, and you see the fixed price before you book, usually 150,000 to 220,000 VND to Duong Dong. You need mobile data to book, and you must meet the driver at the official pickup zone, because drivers cannot wait at the curb for long.
Grab updated its rules for PQC in October 2026. Drivers can stop for no more than 3 minutes, must pick up only in the marked zones for the domestic and international arrival halls, and cannot ask for extra parking fees. The app adds a fixed platform fee for airport rides, which is already part of the price you see. Before you land, buy an eSIM or plan to buy a SIM card in the arrivals hall, since airport Wi-Fi can be slow at busy times. For cash, cards and other first-day questions, our first-timer checklist for Vietnam covers the basics.

The public bus is the cheapest way into Duong Dong, at about 20,000 to 50,000 VND depending on the route, but it only runs from about 05:40 to 17:10. Buses leave every 20 to 30 minutes from the area in front of the terminal and take 45 to 60 minutes with stops.
The bus is a good choice if you arrive in the morning with a small bag and stay in Duong Dong. It is less useful for resorts in the north or south, since you may need a second ride from town. Ask the driver or check the route board at the stop, because some routes only reach the edge of town . Motorbike taxis wait near the airport exit and charge about 60,000 to 70,000 VND to Duong Dong. Agree on the price before you get on, and only use one if you travel light, since a large suitcase does not fit.
Sondax tip: If your flight lands after 5 pm, forget the bus and book a car or open Grab before you collect your bags. The queue for taxis and Grab cars grows quickly when two or three evening flights land together.

A pre-booked car or hotel shuttle is the easiest option for families, groups and late flights, because a driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. Many larger resorts in the north and south run their own shuttle, so ask your hotel before you book anything else.
Hotel shuttles are sometimes free and sometimes charged per car, and shared shuttles may wait for other guests. A private car costs more than a taxi for short trips into Duong Dong, but for 4 or more people going to the north coast, a fixed-price 7-seat car often costs about the same as two taxis. When we arrange arrivals at PQC, the guests who wait longest are usually the ones going to the far north who did not check the distance, so we always tell people to confirm their resort's location first.

Phu Quoc airport is small and easy to walk through, but it is changing. The airport is building a second runway and a new passenger terminal, planned to open from the first quarter of 2027 ahead of the APEC meetings, and capacity should reach 20 million passengers a year.
During the work, signs and pickup zones may move, so follow the airport staff and the signs in the arrivals hall. Travelers arriving on international flights straight to Phu Quoc should also read which passports skip the visa, since the island has its own visa-free rule. Keep some small notes in Vietnamese dong for the taxi and the bus, as not every driver takes cards.
