Most people see Cat Ba from the deck of a boat. This Cat Ba Island day tour puts you on a bike instead, on quiet roads between the national park forest, rice fields and the edge of Lan Ha Bay, with a guide who knows which climbs are worth the effort. An electric cart takes you along the coast to Khoan Sau Ranger Station, where the bikes are waiting and the riding begins.
The route crosses the causeway where the forest meets the sea, then heads up Eo Bua, the steepest slope on the island. In Hien Hao commune a family welcomes you in for green tea and honey from their own bees, a good excuse to rest your legs. Lunch is Vietnamese food at an eco lodge looking over the water. In the afternoon you ride the coast road beside Lan Ha Bay, walk through the market in Cat Ba town, take a break at Cat Co Beach and go inside the Military Hospital Cave, a three-storey shelter dug into the rock during the war. An electric cart brings you to Gia Luan Pier in the late afternoon. If you are still planning your time on the island, our Cat Ba Island travel guide covers where to stay and how to get there.
Pick the 32 km ride if you cycle now and then, or the 45 km Cat Ba Loop if you ride often and want the full island with a private guide. You can also book this tour on our TourRadar page. It is the same tour, run by the same Sondax Travel team.
